The Alleghany Jubilee in Sparta, NC is one of the last great oldtime country dances in our region where people get together to flatfoot, square dance, and two step just like they grew up doing. We formed Gap Civil just so we could play there. While we’ve had lots of fun and pretty good luck with fiddlers conventions and shows, the heart of our band is the dancers we play for.

At the Jubilee, our dancers like two fast and then a slow. We’ll mix in a shuffle, a square, a Paul Jones or a broom dance with the fast ones, and then slow it down for a good old country two step or waltz. We put this CD in groups of three (two fast and a slow) to capture as much of the feel of a dance as we could and still put out a quality recording. Nothing would make us happier than if the CD makes you want to come on down to our hometown dance. Hope to see you there.
